Fashion with a side of communication

Hello world. My name is Erin Lynn Smith and here are some words summarizing who I am. Let us start from the beginning. I was born in Dallas Oregon on May 26th, 2000, a product of Amy and Jeff Smith. My parents are from St. Cloud Minnesota but spent time on the west coast at the start of their teaching careers. My younger sister Elizabeth was also born in Dallas Oregon two years after I was. We then moved to Hutchinson Minnesota when I turned four years old. My parents found two great jobs and they still live in Hutchinson with my sister who is going into her senior year of high school.

I graduated high school in 2018 and decided that NDSU was the best choice for me. I have not had any second thoughts and absolutely love this school. I am majoring in Apparel Merchandising which is sometimes hard to explain to people...I usually just say I'm a fashion major because it's easier. The problem with saying you're a fashion major is that people automatically assume fashion design because they don't know any better. In reality, I am studying merchandising which is pretty much every other part of the fashion industry that is not design. There are hundreds and hundreds of jobs that I could pursue with this major but the easiest example people understand is what Rachel Green from the show "Friends" does.

I am also involved in a couple activities on campus. I am one of the Public Relations officers of the Fashion Apparel Business Organization (FABO) and I am in the Gold Star Marching Band. I could make a whole one of these blog posts explaining why I love marching band so much, so...let me change the topic.

I guess there is a lot to know about me and what I am like but I'll just tell you a couple things. I am a band nerd. I have been in band since fifth grade when I decided to play the clarinet and that's where it all started. I don't know where my life would be without all the experiences I have had from band. I was also in choir but, we won't talk about that considering I can't sing. Obviously music is very important to me and has impacted my life so much. My personal music taste is all over the place but if you're into pop punk music, we will get along. Also, marvel movies. Please talk to me about marvel movies.

I have loved fashion ever since I was little and am happy to be doing what I love.

If you're wondering why I'm taking this class, I also have a communication minor that I am very excited to get into!

So there's just a little bit about me. I'm excited to continue this class and learn about the interesting topics that come with it.

Semester Review

It became easier Throughout the course of this semester, I’ve gone through many ups and downs with writing. After graduating from high school, I thought I was a pretty good writer. I took college compositive my senior year and got really good grades, so I wasn’t that worried about writing in college. Well let me tell you, I was knocked down a few pegs my freshman year of college. Now I think I’m an okay writer, but I definitely do struggle a bit. I took this class to fulfill requirements for my communication minor, and really I don’t plan on being a journalist, but I did learn skills in this class that will help me with writing in general during my future career.              I’ve learned how important non-biased writing is and how damaging biased writing can be on both the article and public opinion. When writing news articles as a journalist it’s incredibly important to double and triple-check that sources are very ...
