The theme I am choosing from Old Boy is the theme of monstrosity. Monstrosity is very very visible in this film in many ways. The main character, Oh Dae Su is locked away in a room for 15 years so obviously he becomes insane and almost like a monster. He even started to see ants crawling out of his skin and starts to look like a monster. Another example of this is that he goes throughout the entire movie killing anyone who gets in his way (like a monster would). He also pulls out some of their teeth in a very gruesome way. The movie ends with him finding out Mido is actually his daughter and in order for her not to find out, the acts like a dog and starts licking a man's feet. The discursive formation is created in this movie from this theme. The discursive formation that is created is the idea that being in that room for 15 years causes him to become a monster, which is shown through the actions explained above.
It became easier Throughout the course of this semester, I’ve gone through many ups and downs with writing. After graduating from high school, I thought I was a pretty good writer. I took college compositive my senior year and got really good grades, so I wasn’t that worried about writing in college. Well let me tell you, I was knocked down a few pegs my freshman year of college. Now I think I’m an okay writer, but I definitely do struggle a bit. I took this class to fulfill requirements for my communication minor, and really I don’t plan on being a journalist, but I did learn skills in this class that will help me with writing in general during my future career. I’ve learned how important non-biased writing is and how damaging biased writing can be on both the article and public opinion.
