Week 2- Journal

Five influential journalists/ influencers in my life:

1. Philip Defranco https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClFSU9_bUb4Rc6OYfTt5SPw
2. Dylan Marron https://www.dylanmarron.com
3. Luke Meagher https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoEj4uRzynPXEEegNqMnJVw
4. Lyn Slater https://www.accidentalicon.com
5. Tess Holliday https://www.therelatablefatgirl.com/blog

I chose to talk about three people from the fashion industry and two who are news/politics related because I am interested in both areas and both industries are important to me. I've been following each of these personalities for a couple years now and have become people who I look up to at times. Philip Defranco is an American YouTuber and news commentator. He does daily news shows about politics and world news. Dylan Marron is a writer and LGBTQ activist. Dylan writes about the impact the internet has on hate and recently gave a ted talk about empathy. Luke Meagher runs a youtube channel called "hautelemode" and is a commentator for high fashion and pop culture news. Lyn Slater is a writer and influencer known as "accidental icon." She writes a weekly blog titled this about high fashion and New York City culture. Lastly, Tess Holliday is a writer and plus size fashion model with 2 million Instagram followers. All of these people do a great job of writing/ commenting on what they are passionate about.

Well let me tell you, I was knocked down a few pegs my freshman year of college. Now I think I’m an okay writer, but I definitely do struggle a bit. I took this class to fulfill requirements for my communication minor, and really I don’t plan on being a journalist, but I did learn skills in this class that will help me with writing in general during my future career.              I’ve learned how important non-biased writing is and how damaging biased writing can be on both the article and public opinion. When writing news articles as a journalist it’s incredibly important to double and triple-check that sources are very ...
