Honestly, I have no idea how I'm going to write about my voice when I don't know what it is. Writing doesn't come easily to me, and I tend to be more informational and have less personality in my writing. It's unclear to me why I have a hard time with this, especially because my personality in person is prominent.
I am going to work through finding my voice by writing more casually with the assignments in this class and less like I'm writing a paper. It's hard to get out of my head and just plain write what I feel. I think I have a hard time with it just because I always have so many thoughts in my head at one time and I can’t get them down fast enough without forgetting something.
I want to write for people my age, college-age women and men who are interested in the business of fashion both locally and globally. Because my voice isn't super prominent, (right now) I would easily be able to write about both casual and serious events without seeming inappropriate. Articles for magazines or online sources that are more informational and less opinion-based would work better for my voice.
In order to find my voice more so over the next couple weeks, I'm going to personally journal more and try to break out of this rut I'm in. So far in this assignment, I'm writing more about how hard finding my voice has been and how I need to work on it, but better to be honest right? I found a few pages online that offer some advice in finding one's writing style, and they actually have some good points despite the concept being so hard to teach. A few articles I read online recommended to think about who you want to write to, but in great detail. For example, my reader is smart, they are aware of what's going on in the world and they are trendsetters in their community. One could also think about what kinds of blogs or books they like to read and examine how those authors write, and what you like about their writing. Often what we admire is what we aspire to be. The main thing people recommend to do is just free write. Sit down and write whatever you are thinking and see where it takes you, which is what I plan to try.
